Tramezzino. Say a long goodbye to the sad and soggy sandwich

 Copy by  Ian McCurrach

In the smartest of boardrooms in central Milan, lunch hour arrives and the design-cognoscenti are starving.Neither taste nor style are sacrificed. Because, as if by magic, top quality food always appears centre-stage on thetable.

Those not in the know, could be forgiven for thinking that the delicate triangular shapes are indeed, ordinary sandwiches. But take a closer look and you see that the crust has been cleverly removed and only the best part of the soft milky bread has been used. Fillings are gourmet quality meats, seafood and vegetables, natch. Far superior to what you would find in a mere ordinary take-out or company delivered sandwich.

This special Italian lunchtime delicacy, found throughout the day in the best Italian urban bars, is now available from the newly launched Tramezzino Store and is set to revolutionize the way we lunch around the boardroom and conference table.

A quick Italian lesson sums this cunning concept up: ‘tramezzo’ means ‘in between; and ‘ino’ is a diminutive, hence small, dainty nibble – that in Italy is served only at the smartest of wedding receptions, cocktail parties, home gatherings and events, although its core market is the
boardroom, mostly because it ticks all the boxes of elegance and style, is filling and tasty, yet not remotely heavy.
This new UK opening is the latest outpost of the tried and tested and phenomenally successful Italian concept Tremezzino.it, a well-established catering company with a 10 year history in Milan, Turin, Rome, Monza and Verona. Shanghai was the first international opening and now luckily we have London.

Every order is made by hand on the day in the same traditional, artisan way in each and every location. The new London branch is in the fashion and design district that is Shoreditch. The tasty triangles are packed into beautiful brown boxes and tied up with string. Once delivered, the box unfolds and opens out to become, hey presto, an excellent tray!!

There is a large range of fillings with something for everyone from black truffle mortadella and premium cured Italian hams to more distinctly English ingredients such as hardboiled eggs with lettuce and tomato, and cucumber and watercress.

Brains behind Tramezzino are Luca Pietrobelli and Giampaolo Gori. Peitrobelli says: “We aim to convert Londoners to a better lunchtime experience when leaving the office or boardroom is not an option, or indeed, when a party needs to be catered for. Our breakfasts and afternoon
teas, as well as our lunches, whether it be tramezzinos or salads, rices, fruits and puddings, will ring the changes in the boardroom.”

Minimum delivery order of £25 with delivery from £2.50 depending on the area, apply. The store is open daily serving local businesses and local residents who are already swinging by in their droves with queues out the door at lunchtimes! There are several small tables for those who
can’t bear to leave.

The store also sells a good range of quality Italian fare such as pasta, breads, extra virgin oils and sauces.
