There was a time and not that ;long ago that had anyone asked me to recommend a restaurant to them in Victoria I would have been stumped and would have sent them a little further west in to Chelsea. That is no longer the case. The place that has changed my view on Victoria is a very impressive Chinese restaurant under the name of Grand Imperial. It is situated in the station hotel with an entrance just at the turn off into the station and one from the station itself. The architecture is straight out of the Edwardian banking hall school but the room has been broken up with very cleverly placed screens, which give the vast space a sense on intimacy, indeed a table close to us was obviously two old lovers who hadn't seen each other for decades, there was lots of laughing so it must have been going well, almost as well as my appreciation of the food, the chef is from China (surprise, surprise) by that I mean he has been brought over specially. This gives the food a very authentic taste, very unlike our usual chinese fare.
We started off with a couple of cocktails
The Framble
Then we had
Salmon dim sum
And then
Fresh Water Prawn
and then
The tenderest Beef wrapped round mushrooms
and then
Belly Pork squares with the crispiest crackling imaginable
and then
These last ones are sweet dim sum and they have very cleverly hooked up with Divine Chocolate so the chocolate in them is tip top quality and thus making them even better than they look.
At The imperial Grand they specialise in Abalone and this we had with a very simple dressing and steamed vegetables. The taste was very subtle but astonishingly fresh and comes highly recommended.
WELL, THEY SAY PICTURES ARE WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS SO HERE IS HOPING THESE GET YOU BOOKING..................
