Francophiles with a penchant for the delicious baked goods purveyed at artisan bakery, Poilâne, on Elizabeth Street will soon be able to sate their passion all day long and a whole lot nearer to Sloane Square with the opening of informal all-day dining concept, the Cuisine de Bar by Poilâne.
The original Parisian establishment opened 15 years ago on the Rue du Cherche-Midi in St Germain des Prés and the interiors of the new 80-cover restaurant in Cadogan Gardens will follow that trademark ergonomically simple style with a large sky light flooding the venue’s verdant space with natural light.
Pull up a stool at the eating bar, where chefs will make fresh tartines to order, grab a chair at the individual (if you want to take advantage of the complimentary WiFi) or communal tables (if you’re feeling friendly) or settle down in the lounge area in front of the fireplace and get stuck into freshly baked goods from the nearby Elizabeth Street bakery.
However, there is way more than bread on the table. The restaurant will serve a breakfast menu of classic French dishes, including croissants, eggs and freshly prepared tartines. Lunch is all savoury tartines, salads, a cheeky glass of wine and tea or coffee sub £15 and afternoon teas of freshly made Poilâne pastries – think Punition, Poilâne’s signature butter biscuits. And with last orders at 9.30pm, a romantic supper is definitely on the cards.
But if all that’s not enough to keep you occupied, then a selection of Poiiâne breads and pastries should do the trick plus a range of delightful homewares including bread baskets, bowls, knives, books and Lionel Poilâne’s famous bread board so you can do French Nigella at home without so much as opening the oven door.
