The George and Dragon
When does a country pub become one of the best bolt holes in the land? When it is run by the ex opening general manager of Soho House London, the first of what has now become a worldwide brand, that's when. Chris Day is the said man and after leaving Soho House decided he wanted to open something in the country. This he did with Philip and Michelle Hale; and what was Londons loss was the West Countries gain. They based themselves in deepest darkest Wiltshire on the High Street in Rowde, Devizes and have never looked back. The George and Dragon is a 16th Century coaching inn, which still displays the original beams with the carved Tudor roses and has large open wood burning fireplaces. The rooms are warm and cosy, with wooden floors and antique rugs, candlelit tables and crisp white linen for the tables.
The award winning restaurant specialises in seafood which is delivered on a daily basis from St Mawes, in Cornwall. A full a la carte menu offering meat and game dishes using locally sourced produce is also available in both the restaurant and the bar.
The accommodation comprises of three individually designed bedrooms, they have large double beds, luxurious linen and duvets and flat screen TVs with DVDs, and ipod stations.
They will be as accommodating as they can for your arrival and departure times but as a guideline their check in time is from 2pm and the check out time is 10am.
Breakfast is served from 7.00am downstairs and will roll onto brunch.
There any many events held through out the year, some of which include summer bbqs, games nights, charity quiz evenings, wine and cheese tasting.
